Snow Fox Kids ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at snowfoxkids.com and the Snow Fox Kids educational platform (collectively, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect information from users of our Service, including children under the age of 13.

By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you are a parent or guardian, you are responsible for ensuring your child's use of the Service complies with this policy.

2. COPPA Compliance

We are fully committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Key points:

• We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
• A parent or legal guardian must create the account and provide consent before a child can use the Service.
• Parents can review, modify, or delete their child's personal information at any time.
• We do not condition a child's participation on the collection of more personal information than is reasonably necessary.
• We do not share children's personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

3. Information We Collect

3.1 Account Information (Provided by Parents)

• Parent/Guardian name - to identify the account holder
• Parent/Guardian email address - for account login, communication, and password recovery
• Password - stored in hashed form for account security
• Subscription and billing information - processed securely through Stripe (see Section 7)

3.2 Child Profile Information (Provided by Parents)

• Child's first name or nickname - used to personalize the learning experience
• Child's age or date of birth - used to adapt educational content to the appropriate grade level
• Avatar selection - chosen character representation within the platform

3.3 Learning and Usage Data (Automatically Collected)

• Learning progress - scores, completed activities, skill levels across subjects
• In-app activity - games played, badges earned, streaks, XP points, crafted items
• Usage data - session duration, features accessed, and interaction patterns
• Device information - browser type, screen size (used for responsive display only)

3.4 Information We Do NOT Collect

• We do not collect children's last names, physical addresses, phone numbers, or Social Security numbers.
• We do not collect photos, videos, or audio from children.
• We do not use behavioral advertising or tracking targeted at children.
• We do not allow children to make personal information publicly available.

4. How We Store Data

We use a combination of storage methods to provide our Service:

• localStorage (Browser) - Learning progress, preferences, and session data are stored locally in the user's web browser using localStorage. This data stays on the user's device and is not automatically transmitted to our servers.
• Server-side JSON files - Account information, authentication data, and cross-device sync data are stored in JSON files on our servers. These files are protected by file system permissions and are not publicly accessible.

Data is transmitted between the browser and our server using HTTPS encryption.

5. How We Use Information

We use the information collected to:

• Provide and personalize the educational experience for each child
• Adapt content difficulty based on the child's age and progress
• Track learning progress and display it on the parent dashboard
• Enable cross-device synchronization of learning data
• Maintain account security and authentication
• Process subscription payments (via Stripe)
• Send important account-related communications to parents (not to children)
• Improve the Service based on aggregated, anonymized usage patterns

6. Parental Consent

We require verifiable parental consent before collecting any personal information from children under 13.

• Only a parent or legal guardian may create a Snow Fox Kids account.
• By creating an account and adding child profiles, the parent provides consent for the collection of their child's information as described in this policy.
• Parents must agree to the Terms of Service and this Privacy Policy during account creation.

7. Parental Rights: Review, Modify, and Delete Data

Parents have the right to:

• Review their child's personal information and learning data at any time through the parent dashboard or by contacting us.
• Modify their child's profile information (name, age, avatar) through account settings.
• Delete their child's profile and all associated data through account settings, or by contacting us at support@snowfoxkids.com.
• Revoke consent and request complete deletion of all family data by emailing support@snowfoxkids.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

To clear locally stored data, parents can clear browser localStorage through browser settings or by using the "Clear Data" option in the Snow Fox Kids Settings page.

8. Third-Party Services

We do not sell, trade, or share children's personal information with third parties for marketing or advertising.

The only third-party service that receives user data is:

• Stripe (payment processing) - When a parent subscribes to a paid plan, billing information is handled directly by Stripe. Stripe's privacy policy can be found at stripe.com/privacy. Stripe is PCI DSS compliant. Children's personal information is never shared with Stripe.

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising networks, or social media tracking on our platform.

9. Cookies and localStorage

Snow Fox Kids does not use traditional tracking cookies. Instead, we use:

• localStorage - To store learning progress, user preferences, session tokens, and offline data locally in the browser. This data is not shared with third parties.
• Session data - To maintain your login state and provide a seamless experience across pages.
• Service Worker cache - To enable faster loading and limited offline functionality. The service worker uses a network-first strategy and does not collect or transmit personal data.

We do not use cookies or any tracking mechanism for advertising, behavioral profiling, or cross-site tracking.

10. Data Security

We take the security of your family's data seriously and implement the following measures:

• Passwords are hashed using cryptographic hashing before storage (never stored in plain text).
• All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
• Server-side data files are protected by file system permissions and are not publicly accessible.
• Authentication tokens are generated using cryptographically secure random generators.
• We conduct regular reviews of our security practices.
• Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel only.

While we strive to protect personal information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We encourage parents to use strong, unique passwords for their accounts.

11. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. If you cancel your subscription, your data will be retained for 90 days in case you wish to reactivate, after which it will be permanently deleted. You may request immediate deletion at any time by contacting us.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify parents via the email address associated with their account at least 30 days before the changes take effect. The "Effective Date" at the top of this page indicates when this policy was last updated.

Continued use of the Service after the effective date of a revised policy constitutes acceptance of the changes.
